A family gathering at the farm.

Charlie's sisters always doted on him and I am sure they pampered them. Aunt Sadie, Aunt Janie and Aunt Kate all lived 20 miles away in Lafayette for many years, so we saw a lot of them when we visited the farm in the summer.

Aunt Janie had a model A Ford with a rumble seat and we loved to ride with her. When she stopped driving or maybe at her death, the car came to Charlie, but it was Nettie who drove it most of the time.

The old farm house had no running water or electricity, but it was a very popular gathering place for all the relatives. I remember my mother lamenting that as a girl she was assigned to washing of all the ice cream dishes that accumulated on Sundays in the summer time when relatives gathered for homemade ice cream in the yard under the wonderful shade trees.
