Dorothy Elizabeth Rhode Simmons
During the years of World War II, Dorothy thought she should help the war effort and she took a course in precise instrument measurement. She struggled to pass the course, but when she did, she was never hired because she had so many children at home. She did get apart time job at Ayres Department store during those years in the yard goods department. She still made most all of our clothes and she had a cedar chest full of remnants. When we wanted something new, we went to Mother's cedar chest and picked out the fabric.
