My Dad went into the insurance business and we were able to locate more permanently. We moved to Rogers Drive in Springfield, Ohio. Our house was across the street from the school. We lived in a double house. There was an empty lot between our house and another double and there always were many children to play with and a steep sidewalk to skate down. We lived there about 3 years before moving to Indianapolis. I remember many wonderful summer days spent through the years as we visited the farm. Beverly and Lindsey Rhode (Forest and Peggy Rhode's children) lived just a mile up the road on Pine Creek, and they came to play almost every day. Grandma Rhode had a dress-up box that we played with for hours. I remember especially a pair of blue, satin bloomers that she put in there and we made beautiful costumes out of them as well as with other treasures from the box. Sometimes we played in the old, unused barn that had many sections and where a black buggy was stored for years. Grandmother would plan to go to town on Tuesday evening to Pine Village and on Saturday evening to Oxford. She would shop, take eggs to the Piggly Wiggly to sell and visit with people. When we visited Oxford on Saturday, I would see relatives. The Dry Goods store was operated by Aunt Sadie's family, the Messners, the local Hatchery was owned by my Uncle Glen Simmons. We always gathered for the free movies, many of which were silent. | ||||||
