Seymour Rhode and Rebecca Hurley
SEYMOUR RHODE (180l-1864) My great, great grandfather married Rebecca Hurley (l805-l839). (Aunt Kate spelled it Herley) Their children were: William, Thomas, Hester, Caleb, Mary, Jonathan, Seymour and Rebecca. They lived in Warren County, Indiana until 1855 when they sold their land and moved to Iowa. Seymour died in Iowa in l864. Hester Rhode married Seymour Gray son of William Gray and Sarah Cobb and thus a Rhode, Gray, Cobb connection began.

Here is the content of a letter that was written in 1871, by Charles and Emily Gray, the brother and sister of Seymour Rhode and Rebecca Hurley's son-in-law, Seymour Gray.

To William Gray and Sarah Cobb Gray

Dear Father & Mother,
It is with pleasure that I take this time to inform you that we have arrived all safe and in good health without any bad luck whatever. We left Attica as you have been informed at 8 o'clock in the evening. Got to St. Louis shortly after sunup next morning. We waited two hours for the Sedalia train and then it left for Windsor arriving here at half past seven in the evening. We found Esther and Semer on the train looking for us before it came to a standstill.
