Albert "Beanie" Rhode was the youngest of the three children of Charlie and Nettie
Rhode. He was born August 15th 1901 and died June 3rd 1977.
He went to high school in Oxford, Indiana where his sister Dorothy later taught 4
th grade.
In 1924
he graduated from Wabash College and the following summer he and two of his friends
started for the West Coast in an old car. The car made it as far as North Dakota. His two
friends made their way back to Indiana, but Beanie decided to stay with his uncle Ed
Reed (his mother's brother) and make his way on to California when the weather cleared
in the spring. He was able to get a job teaching for the winter in a one-room
schoolhouse. He told about riding a horse to the school where the snow sometimes
came up to the windowsills.
He did finally get to the Los Angeles area where he sold insurance for a few years, and
married Evelyn in 1928.
Beanie's wife Evelyn Wright was born August 6th, 1901 in Scotland
and migrated to the United States in 1922. They were married in 1928. In l933 Beany
joined B. L. Russell & Co Appliances located in Huntington Park, Ca. which he owned
until he died in 1977.
